I think the last few days online have really driven home how Western leftists, especially white Americans, really fetishize and romanticize the idea of a violent revolution because they are completely disconnected from real violence.
They are never going to be the ones whose homes are being bombed. They are never going to be the ones being beaten by soldiers. They are never going to be the ones with guns to their heads.
War is not a reality to them. It’s something that is distant, that happens to other people, that they can watch from the comfort of their safe homes and argue about online like it’s a tv show, like there aren’t real people suffering and dying. War and violence and death are just another form of entertainment, another fandom to participate in.
It’s honestly like The Hunger Games in real life.
Privileged people sitting back and watching as others suffer and die. For entertainment.
It’s beyond repulsive and I’m disgusted by what I have seen from supposedly leftist people.
To head off any well-intentioned geopolitical questions:
I support and will fight for the safety, security, and civil rights of civilians always, and without regard for nationality. I reject the nation-state induced view that citizens of a polity are inherently guilty for the actions of said polity’s government/military by virtue of citizenship, race, ethnicity, or religion; and I reject the concept that people of a certain national or ethnic determination are inherently responsible for the actions of any government/military, including ones which purports to speak/exist for them.
